To Pledge or Not to Pledge

Hello college goers, hopefully this post doesn't come to you to late. Today I'm going to discuss the decision to pledge a sorority. For some people this choice may be an easy one, but for others it's hard to decide if the commitment is worth your time. Here are a few things to consider before pledging.

1. Why do you want to join?
If you are looking for a strong group of girls to socialize and bond with you may or may not be making the right decision. I have found that despite having the best of intentions sometimes friendships simply don't last in a sorority. Make sure you are joining a group of girls that you genuinely like. If you are joining a sorority just for the popularity or the parties you may find your academics slipping and your shame building.

2. What are your goals for the future?
Sororities can be a great way to network. Look into each sorority's philanthropy, annual events, and major partnerships. This can help you make the final decision.

3. Can you make the commitment?
Sororities take a lot of time and money. During pledge week you'll spend hundreds of dollars on a color coded wardrobe and spend up to 8 hours a day with your sisters. Don't forget monthly dues and all the school work you may be sacrificing.

I'd love to hear from my fellow sorority gals. What has your experience been? Yay or nay?
